The food was so good! And it was so cheap! There were lots of options for food, it seemed like every restaurant offered something different. Personally, I'm very partial to Korean food and they had sooo many great Korean restaurants. One of my favorite things is dolsot bibimbap, or "hot store" bibimap, and boy did they deliver on that one
That meal up there? $10. That's not $10 on the menu before tax and tip, I mean $10 total (well it's $10 on the menu as well, since they include tax and they don't have a tipping culture)
One day I decided to splurge and spent a whole $15 on ramen!
I don't know why or how the egg was red inside. If anyone has any insight into that please let me know!
Another excellent dish was hotpot. The little pandas that you see in the photos below would melt into the "stew" and you would take raw pieces of meat (which you can see in the third picture on that shelf behind me), dip them into the stew for a few seconds to cook them, and then consume. You don't eat the stew at the end though, it's too oily for that, although we did have some of the broth (the not-red liquid in the first two shots)
Of course there was some strange food as well. I tried chicken feet, and I think once was enough. I tried pig ear and it was actually not bad! Kind of bland really. And then there was the "Michelin star food stall"
I got the "combo", tried one of everything and threw it all out! Not quite to my liking :). By the way you may see from the photo that the combo was $35, but that's in Hong Kong dollars, which is roughly 8:1 to the US dollar, so we're really only talking about US$4.50
Lastly, I had the opportunity to try some local alcohol! The poison of choice in this part of the world is Baijiu, and my friend Cunxin was generous enough to share some with me. It's between 35%-65% alcohol, and I think it says 39% in the picture below. Anyway, it's alcohol, it's nice!
There was so much more awesome and unique food and food experiences, from the Portugeuse egg tart, to chocolate mochi bread, to Hong Kong style milk tea, dim sum, pork buns, mango soup, the list goes on, I think you get the idea 😋😋😋
